End of Year Newsletter 2015
Hi Viewpoint Friends,
Just in the nick of time, we’re sending out our End of Year Newsletter to our Viewpoint Community Media members and our many registered users of the Swindon Viewpoint site. We’ve had a great year and we hope you have too!
As part of our ongoing support for the local Community & Voluntary Sector, 2015 saw the launch of new service – Media Aid. This service is aimed specifically at providing media production training and support to local Community & Voluntary groups and the people they work with, to help them learn new skills and get their messages out there, showing all the great work that goes on in the sector locally. Recent fundraising efforts enabled us launch this initiative; to buy some new camera and editing equipment and deliver the training.
We’ve had the pleasure of working with some fantastic organisations this year, including The Harbour Project, SMASH Youth Project, Swindon Equality Group, and Parkinson’s UK – Swindon Branch. We’re also currently finishing off a project with Artsite, which will be the last of 5 funded projects this year. You can view all of these videos by searching on the Swindon Viewpoint website at – www.swindonviewpoint.com, or by following the links at the end of this newsletter.
We aim to secure further funding to continue this work in 2016, so if you are one of our members and are interested in this support please get in touch by emailing us on – contact@viewpointcommunitymedia.org.uk
We were fortunate enough to receive two further grants this year to support us with organisational development, the first enabled us to develop a three year strategy and the second will enable us to undertake a business plan and fundraising strategy, leaving us in good stead for the years ahead.
This year we also turned our attention to developing the new website for Viewpoint Community Media, which will be launching early in the new year. This website is distinct from the Swindon Viewpoint service in that, rather than being a media distribution service, it is aimed at those who want to find out more about the organisation and our other services, find out how to get involved or how to receive our support. We will also be launching a new shop feature on this site before Spring, where interesting DVDs (as well as other related items) will soon be available for sale – with all proceeds going towards supporting our charitable work.
In other news, we moved our office base to the historic Health Hydro in Milton Road; developed a new partnership with New College Swindon where we will be assisting with the community media element of their film and video course; and furthered existing partnerships with others, such as Swindon Shuffle. We also have an exciting event coming up this year with the Community Media Association – more on that coming soon!
Digitisation of our store of archive films has been steady and many new ones have seen the light of day. In short, hundreds of interesting new films have been made and shown via Viewpoint this year. If you have free time left over the holiday, why not spend some of it browsing on the website and catching up at – www.swindonviewpoint.com.
Wishing you all a very happy holiday and fruitful New Year!
