Description
A comprehensive account of the Great Western Railway founding a major base of operation in 1841, then growth to the largest workshop and centre of engineering excellence in Europe. A fascinating tale of struggle and near disaster.
Railway Town charts the remarkable story of Swindon, from ‘wild west’ beginnings – following Brunel and Gooch’s decision to site a railway factory in open fields below a tiny market settlement, – to the fastest growing town in Europe. Including how it very nearly failed at the outset and the initiative of the people that saved it. This is a story brimming with hardships overcome, and the spirit of the industrial revolution. The tale is woven from expert accounts and fascinating archive film, as well as new and recent footage; – much of it never seen before.

Mr Wood –
Very good film shame it doesnt come on Bluray.
Martin Parry –
Hi there, I agree with you, Blu Ray is vastly superior and the film is HD, but we don’t have the demand to warrant a Blu Ray duplication run, most people want DVD.
We do have a Blu Ray M disc writer in the Archive though and could do you a one-off M disc Blu Ray (expensive discs meant to last a 1000 years – that we use for Archive purposes) Could do one for £16 using the expensive blanks and dedicated studio time. Let me know if you want one

Hello! I’m a brazilian reseacher from the Departmente of Sociology at the São Paulo University (USP). My study focuses the railway town of Paranapiacaba, built by english engineers in the mid-19th century. I would like to know if the movie “Railway Town” is avaiable on-line, for research purposes.
Best regards,
Martha
